Art Foundations is an introductory course to all other art courses that explores the technical, aesthetic, and logistical experiences of art-making. AFO introduces students to disciplines including acrylic painting, watercolor painting, printmaking, oil pastel drawing, chalk pastel drawing, ink drawing, graphite drawing, colored pencil drawing, charcoal drawing, mixed media, ceramics, woodworking, metals, mosaics, paper-making, papier-mâché, fibers/textiles, and much more. Students will build their technical abilities in various forms of art-making as well as research 21st-century artists and how they create art in relation to the world around us. Students will develop individual direction with art projects as they explore different approaches to art-making and expand their understanding of what art can be. Students will enhance their critical thinking skills through critiques, class discussions, and reflection.
