3D Experiences
3D Experiences is a studio-style course that introduces students to disciplines including ceramics, woodworking, metals, mosaics, paper-making, papier-mâché, fibers/textiles, and mixed media. This course explores the materials, techniques, processes, history, contemporary practices, and language of art. Students will develop individual direction with art projects as they learn about the Artistic Behaviors and apply them to their art making. This course places a strong emphasis on the creative process and inventive problem-solving. Students will enhance their critical thinking skills through critiques, class discussions, and reflection.
Ceramics 1 students spent the first week of school experimenting with clay and practicing different forming techniques.
Scotties experimented with using cardboard to create a functioning bridge.
Students worked through several designs until they were successful!
Scotties learned how to throw a pot on the wheel and make "clay" from paper pulp.
Scotties experimented with sun printing using foliage from around campus.
We also created frames (from which we will hang our sun prints) by yarn wrapping branches that had fallen during the storm!
Students learned how to use make pigments from natural materials and used them to dye linen.
Scotties explored abstract forms with paper while using various techniques to join two surfaces.
Students explored the art of weaving by experimenting with different techniques to create an expressive tapestry!
Students planned their own design, created their own looms from cardboard, and demonstrated how to dress their looms using cotton warp thread.
